  • Immediate and Unconditional Reinstatement of Student Nurse Seluwa Vincent
  • Reversal of Hiked Hostel and School Fees

The Workers’ Rights Campaign stands firmly with Student Nurse Seluwa Oluwaseun Vincent. We condemn in strong terms the harsh and unfair conditions set by management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in collusion with representatives of the State government and NANS leadership for Vincent’s reinstatement to school. These conditions punish Comrade Vincent for speaking out against high fees, poor living conditions, and human rights abuses. And they would serve to reinforce the turning campuses into places of fear instead of institutions of learning, that we have increasingly witnessed in recent years.

It is unacceptable that state representatives and school management would team up to silence students. It must be noted that the decision and the conditions for the reinstatement of Seluwa Oluwaseun Vincent were set in his absence. On one hand, this action is antithetical to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which guarantees the freedom of speech and rights to protest. On the other hand, it is an attempt to further intimidate and victimise students into silence in the face of poor studying and living conditions, hike school fees and mismanagement.

We also condemn the local NANS leadership for backing these oppressive measures. Their role in suspending Seluwa shows they are more interested in pleasing authorities than defending students.

We demand, without compromise:

  1. Seluwa’s immediate and unconditional reinstatement.
  2. Protection from harassment and intimidation.
  3. Fair compensation for the time, money, and peace of mind he lost.
  4. The chance to take his exams with his classmates on the due date.
  5. Immediate reversal of hostel and tuition fees to keep education affordable.
  6. Safe, clean, and well-maintained student housing.
  7. New, truly democratic elections for an independent Student Union.
  8. An end to all intimidation, suspensions, and criminal charges against protesting students.

We call on workers, students and trade unions to stand with Seluwa. Speak out, reject the draconian conditions, and pressure the authorities to meet the legitimate demands. Silence only empowers the oppressors. Together, we can ensure justice for Seluwa and all students who fight for their rights.
