344

The Workers Rights Campaign (WRC) condemns the attack on the NLC President – Comrade Joe Ajaero, who was abducted at the early hours of today and the continued attacks of the government on workers in the state.

The despicable brutalisatiom of Comrade Ajaero earlier today was carried out by armed thugs led by the Imo State governor Special Adviser on Special duties Nze Chinasa Nwaneri.

The NLC president who was at Imo State to lead the workers in the state for a peaceful protest demanding that the state government prioritize workers welfare considering the alarming hyperinflation in the country which has since left many workers pauperised and traumatised.

At the height of this, the Imo state government declared over 11,000 identifiable workers as ghost workers thereby denying them their entitlement while considering the fact that these workers have dutifully worked over 20 months with no wages.
WRC thereby condemns this outright impunity meted out today on the labour community and especially the inhumane torture on the NLC president, this act must not be allowed to slide by the way.

In light of this, WRC calls on NUEE to withdraw their services and shut down the nation’s electricity supply at the expiration of all its demands.

Organized labour and civil society organizations must collectively make it clear that such fascistic actions that have become the hallmark of governors like Mr Uzodinma will not be tolerated by organizing a nation wide strike action and mass protests.
