Uphold the Tenets of Internal Democracy and Defend Health Workers – Com Biobelemoye Josiah, MHWUN President

MHWUN.FCT-SDCThe President of Medical and Health workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN),Comrade Biobelemoye Joy Josiah(JP), urged  delegates to the 8th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference FCT council, Abuja held on 13th April, 2016 at the Area Council Service Commission hall, Area 3 Abuja to conduct themselves in a peaceful but resolute  manner to the tenets of Labour Democracy that would bring about  a transparent, fair and free election devoid of rancor. This was contained in an address delivered on his behalf by Comrade M.M Fabusuyi at the occasion.

He said occasions like this come with a lot of excitement, and most times, high expectations, he also said some extreme occasions, disagreements bordering on lack of mutual understanding such times as this, he therefore urged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to their common goal in making the Union great.

As a matter of fact, he said conferences like this ordinarily are moments for sober reflection, a time to chart a course and contemplate on some set of objectives and strategies aimed at improving on the condition and welfare of their members.

He further gave credence to the Union tradition as always is to provide, through its policies, some set of objectives and strategies that could improve on the condition of its membership and better their welfare, he said that is the tradition for which his administration has sworn to hold on to tenaciously, having also inherited a stable and prosperous Union from his predecessors and he promised that they shall endeavour to sustain it.

He promised to continue to sustain these ideal work painstakingly in order for the Union to attain greater heights, he therefore solicited for the support of all members and commitments to enables them achieve this noble ambition.

He said within the short period they have been in office, they have been able to commission and re-locate the Secretariat of the Union as well as moved into the magnificent edifice, Ayuba Wabba House, which is one of the legacies of his predecessor, comrade Dr. Ayuba Wabba,mni. He said some organs meetings were also held.

He informed the delegates that a national leadership retreat has been planned for after July and a follow-up step-down for the State Councils’ principal officers subsequently. He said the National retreat will provide for a strategic framework to guide the National leadership of the Union on the policies of consolidation, advancement and progress of the Union, in line with the traditional ideology and programmes of the working class movement.

Finally, he informed the delegates of some changes that have occurred in the Union recently. Arising from decisions of the 9th NDC and extant staff conditions and regulations on office tenure, he said the changes involved the retirement of the Secretary General of this great Union, Comrade Marcus I. Omokhuale, who served the Union diligently as the Secretary General for the past twelve years, he said he has been succeeded by the former HOD Admin, Comrade Silas G Adamu.

 Earlier the conference was declared open by the FCT Secretary of Health & Human Services Secretariat. The vote of thanks was given by comrade Richard Gbawuan the Zonal Secretary North-central MHWUN.

The 8th Quadrennial State delegates conference election which was adjudged by delegates to be free and fair had the following candidates emerging as the new leadership of MHWUN FCT Council;

Comrade Abubakar Shanabo as chairman

Comrade Modu Jubril as vice chairman

Comrade Williams Abu as Treasurer

Comrade Ahmed Lanre as Trustee

Comrade Ado Muhammad Musa as Auditor

Comrade  Grace I. Baba as PRO

The newly elected executives were immediately sworn in.
