SWL Stands in Solidarity with Unilag Students – #FeesMustFall; Free Arrested Activists NOW!

257

Socialist Workers League strongly condemns the arrest of student leaders Femi Adeyeye, Phillips Olatinwo, Giwa Temitope and Ayodele Aduwo today 6th September, 2023 for protesting the incessant increase in tuition fees in Unilag and demands their immediate release.

Education is a fundamental human right enshrined in the Federal Republic’s constitution in Nigeria 1999 as amended. Increases in fees at the university and other tertiary institutions is a blatant attack on this right.

The neglect of our institutions is made worse by the recent wave of hikes in tuition fees, as rich people and their cronies in government send their children and wards to school abroad.

We stand in solidarity with the demands of the student movement and call for all student bodies, trade unions and other civic organisations, both nationally and internationally to stand in solidarity with the Unilag students.

Frances AKINJOLE (National Chairperson) & Mobolaji OTUYELU (National Secretary)
