As the Country Falls Apart Under APC, Tinubu Reinvigorates Campaign

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has seen new fire breathed into his presidential campaign in recent days, with Maj Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) campaigning for him in the northern part of the country for the first time.

In addition to Buhari joining him on a campaign rally in Adamawa and Yobe on the 9th and 10th respectively, the president is slated to make more appearances on his behalf.

As the campaign season draws to a close, the ruling party is bringing all its financial and political resources to bear, with high-profile defections to the APC, including that of Edo State PDP financier, Goodluck Adenomo, and Vice Chairman of the Lagos State PDP, Otunba Amid Adekunle Oduborisha.

In addition, the Lagos State Chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) also declared support for the APC and its presidential and gubernatorial candidates in Lagos.

As the country continues to fall apart under APC rule, the inability of other mainstream opposition parties to provide a credible alternative, and the bourgeois nature of Nigeria’s electoral process, make a Tinubu presidency a continued possibility despite record levels of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and economic crises.

To break the cycle of crisis the ruling class has plunged Nigeria into for more than 6 decades post-independence, it is imperative that the Nigerian left intensify good faith efforts to build a mass-based political force that can defend the interests of ordinary Nigerian people and wrest power from the ruling class, regardless of who INEC declares winner next month.
