Bobboi Kaigama was recently re-elected as president of the Trade Union  Congress(TUC) by the deligates to the 10th Triennial National Deligates Cnference on Thursday 2nd June 2016 at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites Kado, Abuja.

The 10th Triennial National Deligates Conference with the Theme; Labour and National Re-Orientation: The Change We Want had in attendance delegates from the 25 affiliate Unions of TUC and its Councils in the 36 States and Abuja.  Com. Ayuba Wabba the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of labour and Productivity, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, former Nigeria permanent representative to the United Nation and host of others were present at the opening ceremony as invited guests.

In his keynote address Prof. Ibrahim Gaambari said labour is an indispensable partner in production and moreso we can not move forward except we embrace production and productivity and without labour other factors can not translate into production. He therefore appealed that government should not treat labour as organization they will result to when there is crises.

He said one of the reasons why Singapore moved became developed is that the government had a compact agreement with Labour not to go on strike.

He called for attitudinal change on the part of both the government and the governed as change would not happen unless all of us are part of the National re-orientation.

This position of his is clearly an attempt such as we commonly find with representatives of the bosses, to coopt workers into being servile servants of the capitalists. Labour is not merely a factor of production. It is the livimg force which creates social wealth. Those who are not productive in our society, the parasites, are indeed the capitalists.

Further, such compacts as that reached in Singapore was a betrayal of the workers by the trade unions in that country. Without the right to strike, workers are finished. The development of Singapore which like many he sang to the high heavens of, has essentially been primarily to the benefit of the bosses in that country and globally. Workers can never attain freedom and a better life with such rotten deals with the governments of the bosses.

Com. Jaiye Gaskiya delivered the Conference lecture on behalf of Femi Falana whom he said was unavoidably absent. Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the President of the Nigeria Labour  Congress (NLC) also delivered a solidarity message.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria(TUC) was registered as a labour centre on 8th of August 2005 when the then President  of TUC, Com.(Dr.) Peace Obiajulu, received the certificate of registration. Prior to that date, TUC had gone through various transformations starting  in 1980, first as Federation of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria(FESSAN), then as Senior Staff Consultative Association of Nigeria(SESCAN) and finally TUC.

Com Bobboi Bala Kaigama is the third president of TUC since inception in 2005. Others include Com Peace Obiajulu and Com Peter Esele.
